'We look forward to being a part of the North Bay community and creating a space for adult recreational cannabis education and culture'

Tokyo Smoke, located at Nipissing Plaza, 390 Lakeshore Drive, will be opening tomorrow, Friday, March 20 at 9 a.m.

Regular business hours are 9 a.m. - 10:30 p.m., seven days a week.

In light of the current COVID-19 situation, the grand opening celebration event has been moved until a later date.

In the meantime, the store will be taking a number of precautions to increase health and safety protocols.

Ontario licensee and store owner Lorne Fine, who has partnered with Tokyo Smoke, said, “We look forward to being a part of the North Bay community and creating a space for adult recreational cannabis education and culture.”

Fine, a Toronto divorce lawyer, expected to need at least 2-4 managers and 10-15 staff.

Tokyo Smoke already operates four stores in Ontario, six in Manitoba and one in Alberta.

The new store will operate out of the former Bay Bistro restaurant location in the Nipissing Plaza.

The cannabis retail store lottery draw was held in August and provided those who met pre-qualification requirements for one of the 42 new store authorizations announced on July 3, an opportunity to be selected to apply for one.

Almost 5,000 eligible expressions of interest were included in the lottery draw, which was overseen by a third-party fairness monitor.
