North Bay woman dies in ATV accident

An ATV crash has left a 36-year-old North Bay woman dead.

Ontario Provincial Police in Huntsville said the accident took place at around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said Tamara McPharlane and a 47-year-old St. Thomas man were riding a 1991 Yamaha Timberwolf ATV on Crystal Falls Trail, a private road, three kilometres south of Limberlost Road, in the Township of Lake of Bays.

The ATV left the roadway and struck a rock, throwing both parties off the vehicle. Neither occupant was wearing a helmet. McPharlane sustained head and spinal injuries and was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto where she was later pronounced dead.

A post mortem examination will be conducted.

The man, whose name was not released by police, was taken to the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Police don't know yet who was driving the ATV at the time of the crash, and are continuing their investigation with the help of an Ontario Provincial Police technical traffic collision investigator.
