The North Bay Fire Department has been busy lately, responded to two structure fires over the past few days.
The first was Friday on Sheryl Crescent at 6 p.m.
"The first arriving apparatus were on scene in under two minutes," says Deputy Chief Greg Saunders. "Upon arrival, the home was engulfed in significant fire and smoke conditions. Fire crews learned that everyone was able to safely evacuate the home."
The fire was able to grow so quickly due to gasoline in the garage which was where the fire appears to have started.
"Firefighters were able to successfully manage the fire but not before significant damage had impacted the home," says Saunders. "North Bay Fire suggests that all flammable liquids be stored in an approved fireproof storage container."

"Firefighting crews were on scene in under five minutes<" according to Saunders. "Upon arrival at the home fire crews again faced a significant fire which had already self-vented through the front of the home. Fire crews aggressively attacked the fire and had it under control in under five minutes."
The home suffered significant smoke damage but will be able to be repaired. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
"Given the recent uptick in the number of structure fires that we are seeing in North Bay we would like to remind people that properly located, properly maintained smoke and carbon monoxide alarms will provide your loved ones the necessary notification that there is a danger present," advises Saunders. "The earlier that the danger is identified the better the chance that you and your family will be able to get to safety."
