A draft Parks Master Plan has been completed by city staff and is on tonight’s Council agenda where it will be referred to Committee for further discussion.
The plan is aimed at providing a 20-year roadmap to help guide the City in delivering an equitable network of park spaces.
The plan reviews each park space within the community and provides recommendations. In some cases, the plan recommends spaces remain as is. In other cases, recommendations include the addition of more formal play equipment and recreational space.
Select projects include:
- dog park at Thomson Park
- play structure at Police Playground
- play structure, seating, and shade at Millford Crescent Park
- pickleball courts at Bourke Park
- seating and shade structures at Belleview Park
- full court basketball/ball hockey surface at Circle Lake Park

A dog park planned for the Laurentian Playground site on Carruthers Street has apparently been shelved by Council after complaints that it was too near a heavily populated residential area and would involve taxpayer dollars.
"I’ve had dogs forever," said Coun. King back in 2017 when the idea surfaced, "but one of the concerns seems to be the creeping into the system that the taxpayer would be responsible for people’s pets.”

The first dog park, located at Champlain Park on Premier Road in the south end was built at no cost to the taxpayer as the construction was picked up by Bruman Construction.
