A local fundraising event is now in the world record books.

Cor Maximus and Rebuilt Resources partnered with Nipissing Ride for Dad to take on to try and host the largest exercise ball class back in June of 2019.

The previous record had been held by the YMCA of Greater Toronto with 454 people participating.

After almost two years, organizers say they have received confirmation from the Guinness World Records organization that North Bay has successfully surpassed the previous record.

The event raised more than $5,000 for the cause and organizers were thrilled with the news despite the long wait for results.

"As an Ultimate Ball Class instructor at Cor Maximus, the event seemed like a logical way to promote a healthy lifestyle while making a difference in the lives of those diagnosed with prostate cancer,” said Khouri Long, owner of Cor Maximus.

Statistics indicate that one in six Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetimes and 12 perish from the disease daily.

“We were excited to work alongside Cor Maximus and Rebuilt Resources to bring more awareness to our cause,” Maureen Brazeau, manager of Rebuilt Resources stated.

“As a strong supporter of our community, we were so proud to be involved in this event. I am an advocate for a healthy lifestyle so this was a proud moment for me.”

Participants who are interested can purchase an "I was there...We're in the Books," world record T-Shirt from Skaters North with proceeds also going toward  Nipissing Ride for Dad.
