A new restaurant has officially opened its doors within the NUSU Student Centre in North Bay.
The Bay Bistro is open Monday to Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is open to the general public.
Officials say these hours will continue throughout the summer months. The restaurant features vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options.
Nicolas Gignac has been named manager of the Bay Bistro, which is under the global food and facilities management company Sodexo Canada Ltd.
Originally from North Bay, Nicolas graduated from the Canadore College Culinary Management program in 2009. He has competed in multiple culinary competitions, including as a representative of Northern Ontario in the Ontario Culinary Challenge in 2015, and in 2018 he catered for the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario during her visit to the north. Nicolas, his wife and two young sons recently returned to North Bay.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity to be back home. I am happy to get to give back to the community of North Bay, especially at the campus where I completed my own post-secondary education”, Nicolas said in a release.
“I’m mostly excited to be back in Northern Ontario and have my children grow up in this beautiful city.”
The Bay Bistro is also supporting local businesses Cobs Bread and Good Glaze Doughnuts providing supplies, as well as Gateway City Brewery and New Ontario Brewing Co.
“Students, alumni, and visitors are always awestruck by the incredible sunsets we see throughout the year. We wanted the logo to represent the beauty of nature we are so fortunate to have,” said NUSU Director of Communications, Sarah McGowan.
