The fire call came in around 10:30 this morning on Saturday and by 11:30 a.m., the fire was under control but a large portion of the roof was destroyed.

Fire officials say the cause is still under investigation but early signs point to improper use of electrical equipment.

"A space heater was plugged into an extension cord which was, in turn, plugged into a power bar.," said Greg Saunders, Deputy Fire Chief in an email to BayToday.

"Appliances like space heaters should never be plugged into a power bar.  Any appliances which require a significant draw (space heaters, hairdryers, toasters etc.) should always be plugged directly into a wall outlet and never through an extension cord.  Power bars should only be used for low draw appliances like alarm clocks."

The two occupants of the home were uninjured but they are now left homeless.
