MNR tower demolished

The hose tower was decommissioned in 2005

That fire tower that was a familiar sight to people traveling down Trout Lake Road is now gone.

The Trout Lake Facility was built in 1953.

The photograph of the tower was taken in 1959.

"Most recently, this tower operated as a hose tower that was used to dry fire hose. If you look at the photo closely, you can also see a hose drying there," MNRF spokeswoman Maimoona Dinani told BayToday.

The hose tower was decommissioned in 2005.

The Forest Fire Management division which used to be located at the Trout Lake facility has been relocated to Jack Garland Airport.  That announcement came in March of 2016 and the new building had its official opening in May of 2017.
