A former councillor seeking re-election, Dave Mendicino, led all candidates in spending for council in the 2018 municipal election.

In fact, Mendicino's total was almost twice the amount spent by Peter Gregory, who spent the third most, but failed in his bid.

Veteran Chris Mayne was second in spending. Mendicino finished ninth and Mayne fourth.

On the opposite side of the scale, long-time councillor George Maroosis spent nothing and failed to be re-elected. Newcomer to politics, Alz Lauziere also did not spend anything on his campaign.

Father and daughter team Bill and Tanya Vrebosch proved name recognition means more than campaign signs. They both spent just over $1,000 but finished first and fifth in the final results.

In terms of bang for the buck, Mendicino spent $3.57 per vote, Mayne, $2.40 and by comparison, Tanya Vrebosch spent just 15 cents per vote.

The figures come from documents that candidates are required to file to the city clerk by March 29.
