A black shroud continues to cover the spot where the historic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was located at the north end of North Bay's Memorial Gardens.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96. During the 10 days of mourning, the portrait remained up with black drapery around it.
"The official photos are supposed to stay up until the 10-day or mourning period is over, after which they can be taken down or kept up until the new portraits of the King are installed," explained Gord Young, communications officer for the City of North Bay.
"Our portrait at Memorial Gardens was adorned with a black cloth as a symbol of mourning; for the 10-day period and has since been taken down."

At some point, Young says a new portrait of King Charles III will take its place.
"We’re awaiting more information from the Federal government regarding the process for obtaining the King’s portrait," said Young.
Meantime, the Ministry of Canadian Heritage does not have a timeline as to when a new King portrait will arrive.
"It will be a while before we get the Canadian portrait of the King, which will be different than the one used in London," the Ministry stated in an email.
