Mayor Al McDonald raised, and spent, the most money of all candidates during the 2018 municipal election, according to documents filed with the City.
McDonald's campaign cost $34,275, well ahead of his mayoral rival Gary Gardiner.

There is a $1,200 limit that applies to contributions from individuals.
The Mayor raised $34,454 with nine citizens making the maximum $1,200 donation:

- Carlos Carvalho
- Mark Carvalho
- Amanda Carvalho
- Steve Deacon
- Mark Deacon
- Renzo Silveri
- Bill Ferguson
- Khouri Long
Meanwhile, Gary Gardiner raised $27,010 and spent all of it.
The challenger had more donors over $100 than McDonald but fewer big donors.
Donating $1,200 was:

- Cameron Hunter
- Peter Legate
- Florence Boody
Former Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette spent $24,128 while raising $23,900.

Will Boissoin raised only $100 and spent the entire amount on a sign and Chamber of Commerce debate.
Mike Guillmette, who withdrew his name at the deadline raised $1,510 and spend $899.
In terms of bang for the buck, it cost McDonald $4.24 per vote and Gardiner $4.02 per vote.

Candidates can accept contributions only from individuals who are normally resident in Ontario. Corporations and trade unions are no longer permitted to make contributions to candidates.
