City police have charged a man who was found slumped over his steering wheel in the parking lot of a local cannabis store yesterday evening.
According to police, at 7:10 pm, North Bay Police Service received the call.
Officers arrived and after several attempts to wake the man by knocking on the window failed, the driver’s side door was opened, awaking the sleeping driver.
"After a brief interaction, the male was arrested for having care and control of a vehicle, while impaired by drug," said Constable Merv Shantz. "The accused was transported to police headquarters, where he was examined by a Drug Recognition Officer." During a subsequent search, the male was found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
A 40-year-old North Bay man. who the police did not identify, is charged with;
- Operation while impaired by drug
- Possession of a controlled substance
The man was later released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Shantz says being impaired by drugs carries the same consequences as being impaired by alcohol.
Consequences of being charged with an Impaired Driving Offence include a seven-day vehicle impoundment and mandatory 90-day driver’s license suspension
"Upon conviction, subjects face heavy fines, further driver’s license suspensions and possible jail time."
