OPP say they have arrested a fleeing driver after a witness was assaulted after a Parry Sound traffic accident.
On June 6, at 8 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of Bell Lake Road and Highway 123 in McDougall Township.
According to police, the driver assaulted a witness and fled the scene on foot. Police engaged in a short foot chase before arresting the driver.
Police did not provide details as to why the witness was assaulted.
Alexander Thompson, 32, of Parry Sound is charged with:
- Assault
- Assault a peace officer
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Fail to remain
Thompson is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on June 29. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
