A road rage incident on Premier Road, in the city's south end yesterday, has resulted in multiple charges including assault with a weapon.

Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. officers responded to a reported road rage incident.

Police say both the victim and accused were driving in opposite directions on Premier Road when one changed directions and began to follow the victim’s vehicle.

Both the victim and accused exited their vehicles and a fight started. The victim then re-entered his vehicle and tried to leave, at which point he was again followed.

"The accused used his vehicle to strike the victim’s vehicle, ultimately driving the victim off the road and into a ditch, in close proximity to several children playing. The accused then pulled the victim from his vehicle and physically assaulted him," says police spokesman David Woolley.

Police arrived and arrested and charged a 25-year-old man with multiple assault and driving offences.

Dennis Reuben Scott Rowe, 25, of North Bay is charged with:

  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon.
  • Careless driving
  • Dangerous operation
  • Mischief under $5,000

The weapon was the accused’s vehicle. Using his vehicle to purposefully strike the victim’s vehicle in an attempt to drive him off the road resulted in the charge of assault with a weapon.

Five police cruisers, a firetruck, and two ambulances responded to the incident.

Rowe was released on an undertaking and is set to appear before the court on September 10.
