North Bay Fire Fighters responded to a call at 617 #11 Lakeshore Drive at 12:33am Saturday morning after an unwatched pot on a stove caught fire.

Fire Prevention Officer Joe Gardiner says fire crews arrived to find the kitchen involved and credits a working smoke alarm for preventing the situation from turning tragic.

“The lone occupant was making a late night dinner forgot about the pot and went to bed,” explains Gardiner.

“The smoke alarms were working and woke him up just in the nick of time.”

Gardiner says no one was seriously injured although the occupant did suffer a little smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained to the kitchen and damage is pegged between $15,000 - $20,000 at this point.
