Hariett Madigan accepts a certificate recognizing her contributions to North Bay from Mayor Peter Chirico.

Long-time North Bay mover and shaker Hariett Madigan was presented with the Ontario Senior of the Year Award by Mayor Peter Chirico during Tuesday night’s regular council meeting.

Mayor Chirico describes Madigan as an "inspiration" to our community.

The Ontario Senior of the Year Award gives "each municipality in Ontario the opportunity to honour one outstanding local Ontarian who, after the age of 65, has enriched the social, cultural or civic life of his or her community."

According to Clean Green Beautiful North Bay, Madigan says she has “planted many seeds over the years,” and could not have done it without teams of people along the way.

Madigan's impressive community contributions include her work with the Heritage Gardeners, Living Fit, Clean Green Beautiful North Bay, Communities in Bloom, and her service as a former Honorary Colonel for 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base North Bay.

In announcing the opening of nominations for the awards in March, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli said, "Seniors have generously given their time, knowledge and expertise to make this province the best place in this country to live and work. It is important that we take the time to celebrate our older population and their valuable contributions."
