Astorville's Briir Long is making a name for himself early on in the Greater Ontario Junior 'B' Hockey League.

The 16-year-old who was drafted in the 10th round by the Brantford Bulldogs of the OHL in the spring of 2023, was named the GOJHL's rookie of the month due to his red-hot start to the 2023-24 season with the St. Thomas Stars.

Long sits third in GOJHL league scoring with 21 points in his first 15 games with the Stars.

Long, whose brother Kaedyn also plays with the Stars, has recorded a pair of hat tricks along with six multi-point games including an overtime winner on October 25 against London.

Briir Long is humbled by the accolades.

"It is an honour to win this award but individual awards in this game are also team awards," said the middle Long brother.

"It’s a team game. And the last few games we’ve been winning and if everyone keeps moving forward together then success will start to take care of itself for individuals but the most important is the team."

As of Thursday, the St. Thomas Stars who also have North Bay's Owen Ethier on its roster, sport a 6-8-0-1 for fifth spot in the GOJHL Western Conference.
