Three local companies were honoured during the Northern Ontario Business Awards which took place last night in Sault Ste. Marie.
Jennifer Twigg, of Twiggs Coffee Roasters, won Entrepreneur of the Year.
"From one inspiring cup of fresh roasted coffee on the west coast to a growing Northern Ontario franchise, the 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year was just slightly ahead of her time. She will tell you her first 10 years in business weren’t always easy as she struggled to educate consumers. 25 years later, she is still on the grow," Northern Ontario Business Awards stated about Twigg.
Metric Aid won Company of the Year in the 1 to 15 employee category.
"Reducing emergency room wait times – from the outset, that’s been the goal of the 2019 Company of the Year (1 to 15 Employees). Since 2012, they’ve made significant progress with their physician-scheduling algorithm, now being utilized in hospitals across Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.," stated NOBA
Drillco of North Bay received an Innovation Award.
"One system to serve three applications at a lower cost; that is the idea that earned this company the 2019 Innovation Award. This team recognized that drilling technology was not keeping pace with the demands of a changing industry, so they developed a system that is the first of its kind in the world and a guaranteed game-changer.

NOBA has become the largest annual gathering of its kind in Northern Ontario since it was launched in 1986. These awards have served to heighten the visibility and influence of business in the North and bring peer recognition to the business leaders who create prosperity and economic growth. This year the Northern Policy Institute State of the North Conference coincided with the event.
