Garrett Rach admits he does not have a lot of writing history, but that inexperience never stopped the 36-year-old man from pursuing his dream to publish a book.
"I’ve always been fascinated by creating things through writing and children’s media; hence why I wanted to write children’s books," said Rach.
"My writing style is mainly self-taught with additional tips from schools and various other people."
Rach just recently released his first children's book called, "Becky and the Secret Grotto."
Rach says its a book about Becky, an eight-year-old girl who discovers that a ring she got for her birthday opens a portal to a magical world in her backyard.
"There she goes on to meet various magical friends and dangerous creatures called nightmares on her adventures," said Rach.
He believes Becky is a great lead character for the book.
"The character of Becky was the first thing I thought of," he said.
"I liked the idea of a happy, playful girl who loves nature, and then I got the idea of a fantasy world where she would visit. That would eventually become the Secret Grotto, and with the place; I was able to come up with the adventures she would have."
While the writing is crucial, Rach also credits illustrator Anastasia Myshkina for helping to take the book to another level. He believes that helped him get more interest from Amazon, where his book is available to purchase online.
"Once I found my illustrator, Anastasia Myshkina, and she finished the pictures, I was ready for publishing," he said.
Rach also credits his family for helping him bring the book to life.
"I would like to thank my parents, grandparents, brothers, sister, and friends; it was their support that helped give me the urge to write," he said.
"I also encourage anyone, no matter how old they are, to give my book a chance. I like to try and entertain all ages, not just the ages I ended up putting down."
