This evening, local author Rod Carley is launching his new novel, RUFF, at the David Fox Stage at Canadore College. The event begins at 7 p.m., as part of Carley’s Northern Ontario and national tour to promote his latest book.

Published by Latitude 46 Publishing, RUFF is Carley’s fourth novel, described in a release as “another theatrical odyssey packed with an unforgettable cast of Elizabethan eccentrics.”

RUFF is an urgent and compelling historical fiction, tackling equality, gender, justice, censorship, and the question of whether Shakespeare still holds a place in our world today,” the publisher’s release detailed.

Carley, an award-winning author, actor, director and teacher, has had his previous books longlisted for the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humor and received the Independent Publishers Book Awards Silver Medal for Best Regional Fiction and Foreword Review INDIES Bronze Medal for Humour.

“This ain’t your mother’s Shakespeare,” noted fellow author, Morgan Murray, author of Dirty Birds and a finalist for the Leacock Medal for Humour, speaking of RUFF. “It’s punk rock. It’s spicy, It’s urgent. It’s hilarious. And maybe most of all, it’s a historical fiction for the right now.”

RUFF is available at Latitude 46 Publishing, Amazon, Indigo, and your local independent bookshop. Or head up the hill to Canadore tonight and buy a copy directly from the source. Admission is free for tonight’s event.

As for the David Fox Stage, to find your way you’ll want to enter the main entrance of Canadore College on College Drive. Take the stairs to the left and follow those to the basement. There is also an elevator located right of the Twiggs at the entrance as well.
