Laurentian Ski Club hopes to expand into a four-season facility

The Laurentian Ski Hill Snowboarding Club has big plans for the future.

The popular local facility has just received $220,960 from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario to help transition the hill from a winter-only facility to an all-season destination.

This project includes the addition of, and upgrades to existing services, new and improved way-finding signage, and the creation of a space to host events. Potential future events include adventure competitions, obstacle races, running, mountain biking, and hiking.

“Laurentian Ski Hill Snowboarding Club is excited to provide more activities, support healthy lifestyles encouraging individuals to engage in sport and recreational activities," says club president Brad Gavan. "If you are looking for an unforgettable experience for the whole family, it's a great time to visit the Laurentian Ski Hill Snowboarding Club or any one of Northern Ontario's tourism gems.”

Another local organization, the Discovery Routes Trails Organization gets $130,500 to support the marketing of the all-season North Bay Escarpment Trails. FedNor’s funds will enable the development and management of a strategic marketing plan aimed at attracting large markets and maximizing visitor satisfaction.

And Parry Sound Cruise Line receives a loan of $100,000 to support the expansion of excursion experiences on Georgian Bay.

FedNor funds will allow the installation of a dock system, electrical system, and additional lodging at Sandy Island. The Sandy Island site improvements will create a host site from which PSCL will be able to launch tours of Georgian Bay, including guided visits to the many island parks on the bay.

This project will also support future year-round operation of the Sandy Island site, including winter excursions.
