A man is in police custody after threatening a neighbour with a pair of knives.

Police say that on Wednesday, shortly before 5:30 p.m., a male tenant was returning home to his unit in an apartment building on Main Street East.

He was at his apartment door about to enter, when another tenant of the building, approached him from the opposite end of the hallway and yelled threats while carrying a knife in each hand.

Fearing for his life, the victim, who did not have access to a phone, escaped into his apartment and started to yell out the window for someone to call 9-1-1.

The attacker remained in the hallway and continued to threaten him through the victim’s apartment door.

A neighbour heard the cries for help and called 9-1-1.

North Bay Police patrol officers arrived, cleared the building, and found and arrested the antagonist. Police seized a kitchen knife and a multi-purpose knife as evidence.

North Bay Police arrested and charged John Davide Douglas Stone, age 22, of North Bay with:

  • One count of possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose; and
  • One count of utter threats to cause death.

Stone was held in custody for a bail hearing.
