Kearney is expected to pass a trailer licence bylaw at the Nov. 14 regular council meeting. The bylaw was proposed at a special meeting of council on Aug. 20. The public was given opportunities at two town hall meetings to provide input.

Kearney council is scheduled to pass a trailer licence bylaw at its Nov. 14 regular meeting.

The municipality presented the proposed bylaw during a special meeting on Aug. 20.

It also held two town hall meetings to hear from residents. A copy of the proposed bylaw will be available before the Nov. 14 meeting.

The proposed bylaw presented at the Aug. 20 meeting defined a trailer as a vehicle that is attached to a motor vehicle or can be self-propelled like a truck camper or motorhome.

The bylaw will identify how a trailer can be stored on one’s property. Once a trailer licence is issued, it cannot be used to occupy the trailer on a permanent basis.

Public interaction on the day council considers passing the proposed bylaw is not expected.

Since the bylaw won’t be passed under the Planning Act, there won’t be the ability to appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal. It’s expected licences will be renewed annually.

Violations of the bylaw could result in a fine if the licensee is convicted.
