Kayaker dies in Ottawa river

OPP are continuing an investigation into the death of a kayaker in the Ottawa River near Pembroke Tuesday. 

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene along the Ottawa River in Whitewater Region Township at approximately 10:30 am. 

The caller indicated a female kayaker had been pulled from the water unresponsive.  

The woman was last seen getting out of her kayak after going through a set of rapids. ‎

Bystanders performed CPR until she was brought to paramedics who then took over her care. She was taken to hospital but efforts to resuscitate her were not successful and she was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

The female, a 55-year-old from Texas was staying at Wilderness Tours and was kayaking with a group at the time of the incident. She has been identified as Lynn Bartholomew of Dallas. 

A post mortem examination has been scheduled for today to determine the exact cause of death. 

Police and the Coroner's Office are continuing to investigate the death, but do not suspect foul play.
