It’s time to light up Christmas, Callander

There will be holiday spirit aplenty this evening in Centennial Park because Callander is lighting up Christmas.

Officially known as Callander Lights up Christmas, the popular event draws hundreds to witness the lighting of the park. Once the Operations Department flips that switch, prepare to be enthralled by thousands of lights illuminating the trees and the gazebo.

Fingers crossed the weather will cooperate, but as of now it looks like the forecast is favourable. A slight breeze will make it feel like -8, with an 80 per cent of some light flurries.

Mayor Robb Noon mention, “It’s always a good time for all. It’s great to see the little ones, especially when Santa comes and the caroling begins.”

That’s right, Santa Claus will be in town, and if you come at 4:30 there will be carols filling the crisp air and Lynn Blunt will also perform a few songs. The Nipissing Roler Derby, which has been practicing at the Community Centre for some time now, will be providing free hot chocolate as well.

Once the park action winds down, and the thrill of the lights subsides some, there’s a family movie night at the Community Centre, at 1984 Swale Street. There you will see Arthur Christmas, an animated family comedy.

The film begins at 7 p.m., the park lighting at 5 p.m., and all events are free to attend.
