22 Wing Cares food drive

'I think people are empathetic with the need for food in the North Bay Area, and we know there's always a need'

22 Wing wrapped up another successful 22 Wing Cares Food Drive Friday morning at Canadian Forces Base North Bay.

During the Food Drive a total of 694 pounds of food was accumulated along with $2,165.60 in cash donations.

"So it's a long history of a partnership between the Food Bank here in North Bay and the Wing and 51 Squadron is responsible for the fall food drive," said Major Angela Hudson, Commander of 51 Squadron.

"So every fall, about this time of year, we go out and collect money and food for the local food bank, and it's been a great partnership. The weather has cooperated, which has been awesome. People have been very generous, both with canned goods and cash donations. It's been great."

Maj. Hudson says 22 Wing recognizes the importance of the North Bay Food Bank to the community.

"I think people are empathetic with the need for food in the North Bay Area, and we know there's always a need," she said.

"It's always a great time to donate."

Last year, 22 Wing collected $2,580 and 7,36lbs in non-perishable hamper items.

"We are grateful for everyone with 51 Squadron for this annual fundraiser and food drive to support the North Bay Food Bank," said Debbie Marson, executive director, of North Bay Food Bank.

"We rely solely on the donations from our community to continue the work we do and as the need for our services continues to increase, we appreciate the early morning efforts of those braving the cold to collect, and those who so generously donated."
