"Drag performing is an art that has been around for centuries, that many people have participated in like William Shakespeare, so why not make something that anyone can join as we are about community, not just the 2SLGBTQ+ but all communities, so we are calling ALL drag performers who want a chance to be seen."
That's an appeal from r North Bay Pride to anyone who wants to give it a shot.
“This is a great opportunity whether you are a seasoned performer or someone doing it for the first time," says Jordan Michael, Drag Contest Coordinator.
"You send in your video and information, it will be posted on www.northbaypride.ca and the community votes on who moves forward to the finals on Sept 15, hosted by someone you have seen on TV. The opening number is going to blow people away and you will want to support the community by being there to see these great local performers. It is really important to remind folks, that this is an opportunity for any form of drag including cosplay.
Cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game.
“We are trying to find ways to include every local drag performer, because when we go to the live event finals, we only have so much time to make it all work," says Jason Maclennan, Communications Director for North Bay Pride.
"Our solution, create a voting system that anyone can participate in, and highlight as many great local performers as possible. You can be a King, Queen, Nonbinary, or any way you identify yourself as a drag performer. The voting system allows everyone to participate because everyone deserves their spot in the spotlight.”
If you want to try out, send a one-minute video of you, a picture of you in drag, and a 100-word bio to [email protected] on or before July 30 at 5 p.m. The video cannot have already been posted on any social media platforms.
