International students from India who stayed in tents in front of Canadore College in North Bay say they have come to a solution with the local college.

Close to 20 international students camped out overnight at Canadore College on Tuesday night as they protested outside Canadore's Commerce Court Campus wanting help to find affordable housing. Some international students had been living in hotels unable to find a place to live in North Bay.

After a Wednesday morning rally and march near the Commerce Court campus, students handed over four demand options to the college.

Manpreet Kaur, a member of Montreal Youth Students Organization or MYSO, which was helping the displaced international students, says the school has compromised. Kaur says they are working towards "partially" allowing international students to use online classes for those who cannot find a place to live in North Bay, or allow them to study through some of the other Canadore campuses such as the Stanford Mississauga Campus, Stanford Brampton Campus or the Stanford Scarborough campuses located in southern Ontario.

"At 7 p.m. they agreed with all of our points and the demands," Kaur told BayToday.

"They were very happy."

MYSO sent representatives to North Bay to help. They sent out a release explaining the resolution with Canadore College.

"After 24 hours of a firm front, the college management was finally forced to accept the demands of the students. The college administration assured the students that accommodation will be arranged for the students at affordable rates, the full fee will be refunded without any deduction and the students' classes will be made online as per IRCC rules," the MYSO email stated.

BayToday reached out to Canadore College to get a reaction to the agreement.

"All of the Canadore students involved in the demonstrations this week at the Commerce Court Campus are currently being housed," Canadore stated in a release Thursday afternoon.

"Canadore continues to work with all students to find appropriate accommodation. We will provide a more fulsome update next week."
