The North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH) is getting $1,312,850 from the Province to provide health and well-being for Indigenous people in the area.

The Hub's primary focus is to "improve access to traditional and culturally safe care for the Indigenous community of North Bay and for three partner First Nations – Nipissing First Nation, Dokis First Nation & Temagami First Nation," according to its website.

All services will be available to First Nations, Inuit, Métis people, without distinction of status, non-status, or residence.

"The intent is to complement & improve service coordination and collaboration across municipal, Indigenous, provincial, and/or federally funded health care and early childhood development & learning for the Indigenous population," explains the site.

“The Models of Care Innovation Fund is the province’s new $40 million fund focused on championing local innovation to provide more people with the right care, in the right place,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “This fund supports healthcare partners like the North Bay Indigenous Hub to find new ways to maximize the skills and expertise of their workforce to connect our community to better services and care."

“This will allow us to make necessary changes to create culturally safe health care and build meaningful pathways for Indigenous people of North Bay," says Executive Director Laureen Linklater-Pizzale. "This initiative will foster and support positive health and wellness outcomes for our children and youth in the area.”
