A weekend winter storm put a vehicle in the ditch and its driver in jail as police found a handgun and drugs when they went to help.
Huntsville OPP have charged one person and seized a loaded firearm and drugs from a stolen vehicle that lost control on Highway 11 during a winter storm and ended up in a ditch.
On December 16 at 12:15 a.m., an officer stopped to help the driver of a vehicle that went into the ditch on Highway 11 in Huntsville. The officer saw a handgun inside the vehicle and following further investigation, with the assistance of the Community Street Crime Unit, arrested the driver.
"Police seized a loaded Glock 17 9mm handgun, as well as cocaine and Fentanyl with an estimated street value of approximately $15,000," says Constable Dana Morris.
Noah Hope, 27, of Ottawa was arrested and charged with a string of offences:
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Transport a firearm in a careless manner
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a prohibited device
- An occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Two counts of failing to comply with probation
- Two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
- Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of Fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of Hydromorphone
Hope was held for bail and remanded into custody.
