Nipissing University is pleased to host the third annual North Bay Regional Historica Fair, May 1, in the Education Centre Gymnasium.

The Historica Fair brings together about 150 local students from grades 4 –9 to share their projects showcasing the history, geography and heritage of our local community, province and country. Students have the opportunity to receive one of several awards, including the opportunity to advance to the Provincial Fair in Ottawa (June 11-15, 2008). Interested students can also participate in afternoon seminars on step dancing and Aboriginal Tipis.

Opening ceremonies take place at 9 a.m. and will feature Dr. Dennis Mock, Nipissing University President receiving a 2008 Bronze Volunteer Service Award from the Historica Foundation for outstanding continued volunteer service for a period of three years on behalf of the many Nipissing University administrators, faculty, staff and students who assist annually with this community event.

The Fair is free of charge and is open to the public from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The Historica Fairs Program encourages students to explore Canadian heritage in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment. Students use the medium of their choice to tell stories about Canadian heroes, legends, milestones and achievements - and present the results of their research at a public exhibition. Since its beginning in 1993, the Fairs Program has grown to include more than 275,000 students across Canada each year.
