WEST NIPISSING, Ont. — Following just over one week of detours, motorists can once again access Highway 64 near Field.

Ontario's Ministry of Transportation says construction continues on the stretch of road between West Nipissing and Highway 11 north of North Bay but confirms work is wrapping up at following the temporary closure of Highway 64, south of the junction of Highway 575 at Field.

The MTO's Heather Hamel says Highway 64 reopened to two-way traffic on schedule.

"The road-width has been restored and a guide rail installed. Single-lane flagging operations are in place while the final clean up work is conducted," says Hamel. "This activity does not restrict commercial vehicle traffic from passing through."

The MTO advises the rehabilitation of Highway 64 between Highways 11 and 17 will include "drainage improvements, resurfacing, and structural rehabilitation of the Marten River Bridge. It will also include upgrading lighting at the intersection of Highway 64 and Highway 11."

King's Highway 64 is maintained by the province and connects Highway 69 north of the French River with Highway 11 at Marten River, traversing Highway 17 west of Sturgeon Falls.

The Highway 64 project is anticipated to be complete by mid-October.
