Following a robust turnout for the first session, the City of North Bay is inviting the public to participate in the second design workshop for the newly-named Kiwanis All Wheel Park planned for the Downtown Waterfront.

Led by New Line Skateparks Inc., the workshop will be held at the North Bay Museum, at 100 Ferguson St, on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The naming of the facility as the Kiwanis All-Wheel Park was approved by North Bay City Council earlier this week in recognition of the local service club’s $100,000 contribution toward the project.

The facility will feature a skatepark and pump track and will be located adjacent to the Multi-Use Courts near the Peter Reid Transit Terminal. The design phase of the project will span the next several months, with construction scheduled to commence in the spring.

This marks the second in a series of three workshops to be held during the design phase to gather public input. This input will play a crucial role in helping New Line Skateparks Inc. finalize the preferred design. In addition to the workshops, residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in online surveys that will run concurrently.

The first workshop, coupled with a survey conducted in September, garnered a total response of more than 330 participants. Some highlights from the first round of community engagement included:

  • approx. 90 per cent of responses came from North Bay residents
  • approx. 60 per cent of all responses have been categorized as “active park users”
  • among all “active park users” there’s equal interest in the pump track and the skatepark
  • street/plaza terrain is the preferred skatepark terrain style
  • most popular skatepark features include flat ledges and rails, as well as smaller stair sets with rails, ledges and banks

Guided by consultations held during the creation of the Downtown Waterfront Master Plan and the City’s Parks Master Plan, the project is being supported by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), and the Kiwanis Club of Nipissing.

The City of North Bay encourages all community members to attend this workshop, share their ideas, and actively participate in shaping the future of the Kiwanis All-Wheel Park. For more information about the project, click here.
