Handling drug paraphernalia in public leads to arrest

Police saw a man outside in the 500-block of Chippewa Street West handling drug paraphernalia, at which time he was arrested and charged

The North Bay Police Service has arrested and charged a 25-year-old man with drug trafficking after officers saw him outside in the 500-block of Chippewa Street West handling drug paraphernalia,

The incident happened at 11 p.m. on August 31 in an area close to a couple of schools.

A search resulted in the seizure of:

  • nine grams of Fentanyl
  • A knife that opens with centrifugal force where the blade of the knife may be opened with the flick of the wrist. Any knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity, by centrifugal force, or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring, or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife is a prohibited item and is considered an illegal item under the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Drug trafficking equipment
  • Cash

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $1,800.

Travis Nigel Blackwell, 25, of Novar, north of Huntsville, is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Failure to comply with a release order
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Blackwell was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
