The Green Party has welcomed the long-anticipated election call.
North Bay’s candidates, is college student Kris Rivard, who is described by the party as a dynamic and interesting millennial that will bring a fresh youthful perspective to the contest.
The local Green Party candidate says we are told the winner in Nipissing is known and they say our next Premier is foreordained.
“If that’s the case you don’t have to vote strategically or even vote for the winner,” said Rivard in a release.
“You can vote for what you believe in. If you want action on climate change, if you want sensible electricity policy, if you believe that the future jobs are in a green economy then send a message to Queens Park by voting for the Green Party.”
When the Legislature eliminated corporate and union donations to political parties that funding was replaced with a taxpayer subsidy of about $2.50 per vote received per year given to support the parties between elections.
The Green Party of Ontario is one of the four major parties that receive this taxpayer support.
Green Party officials say that means every vote received by the Green Party contributes to building a stronger and more effective Green voice.
“This time, every Green vote counts,” said Rivard.
