Services, a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its Electric Vehicle (EV) charging units at the Community Energy Park, located between the YMCA Aquatic Centre and Memorial Gardens in North Bay.
The charging units include two Level 3 chargers and two Level 2 chargers, enabling convenient and efficient charging options for EV owners in the area and those visiting or travelling through North Bay.
The Community Energy Park is a groundbreaking microgrid that brings together innovative technologies to supply electricity and heat to key facilities in our community, including the YMCA Aquatic Centre, Thomson Park, and Memorial Gardens. This initiative enhances the energy efficiency of these facilities while ensuring their resilience as important community hubs.
"We are proud to unveil the addition of these state-of-the-art EV charging units at our Community Energy Park," says Matt Payne, president and CEO of North Bay Hydro Distribution and Services, both holdings of the City of North Bay. "This project represents a significant milestone in our efforts to build a sustainable future and promote the adoption of zero-emission vehicles in North Bay. The availability of these charging units will encourage more residents and visitors to our beautiful community, while we work towards a greener Ontario.”
Watch the video below as Payne and MP Anthony Rota speak about EV chargers and the future growth of such infrastructure locally.
The successful implementation of the EV charging units was made possible by the generous support of $99,999 in federal funding from Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).
“We’re making electric vehicles more affordable and charging more available where Canadians live, work and play”, says federal Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson. “Investing in more EV chargers, like these ones in North Bay, will put more Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a strong, healthy net-zero future.”
“Making the shift to EVs is a critical step towards decarbonizing on-road transportation,” says Anthony Rota, MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming. “Which accounts for
20 per cent of Canada’s total greenhouse gas emissions. As more and more people across Canada and right here in Nipissing-Timiskaming make the switch to electric vehicles, these EV chargers become more and more important for constituents to have access to. People visiting our communities can rest assured that they can charge their vehicles while enjoying all the other amenities our riding has to offer.”
