Giant truck clips hydro pole. Plunges downtown into darkness

The accident happened just after 5:30 p.m. and took out traffic and street lights and cut power to a large portion of downtown

Witnesses say a huge truck, going west on McIntyre St. took the turn onto Fisher too tightly and snapped a hydro pole on the corner.

The accident happened just after 5:30 p.m. and took out traffic and street lights and cut power to a large portion of downtown,

Police closed off McIntyre and Fisher to traffic, forcing it to back up on side streets.

There are no reported injuries.

North Bay Hydro reports, "There is an outage in the downtown area caused by a broken pole on the corner of McIntyre St. and Fisher St., due to a vehicle collision.  The outage includes multiple streets.  Crews have been dispatched to perform switching to isolate the area and replace the pole.  Some streets will see their power restored within the next hour, while the remainder will be out until the pole is replaced."

Approximately 693 customers are affected, Full power should be restored by midnight.
