When it comes to the garden Debby Armstrong says she is the boss.

But her husband Jeff Armstrong still plays a key role.

“Jeff looks after lawns and fanatical about weeds keeps things tidy and waters plants so he pitches in all the time,” said Debby.

Between the two of them, it is a lot of work.

“In the spring I just watch the tulips pop up and eventually things start growing," said Debby.

"There is a fair bit of work in the spring and in the fall dividing and re-arranging your plants and have to water it every day. When I know company is coming I make an extra effort to make sure there are no weeds.”

Well, their gardening teamwork paid off this morning.

The North Bay couple’s well-kept garden was nominated as one of the top 10 gardens in the North Bay Blooms competition and today the Tecumseh Drive garden was named the City’s best.

“It is full of beautiful colour and lots of variety. It has been really well maintained, it is very tidy. It is just an interesting garden,” Maureen Ranger, Chair for North Bay Blooms.

“It has been nominated several times, there has been lots of people admiring it and submitted nominations for the garden so it is beautiful.”

Ranger adds that Canada Post letter carriers helped in the garden scouting process as well. She says the late spring led to a slower start to the gardening season as there were not as many nominations as in past years.

“I think it is a great program to add civic beautification as part of all of our aims is to have the city looking great and tidy and encourage people to garden so I think it is wonderful,” said Ranger.
