Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli confirmed that the former OPP building off Chippewa Street has been sold.

Back in December of 2018, Fedeli held a press conference at the building that has been empty for about a decade noting that the province would be looking to sell the former OPP building.

Fedeli says they found a buyer last week.

“We are very pleased that part of the modernization of the government is to be doing things in a business-like way and when you see that OPP building, $1.1 million spent to leave it empty for all those years plowing the parking lot, cutting the lawn,” said Fedeli on Friday morning at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

“We sold the building, the deal actually closed last Thursday and soon you will see a business person with vibrant business opportunity there and the municipality earning taxes and people having a job and the government has a cheque to put in the bank and no more expenses on an empty building.”

No word on who or what type of business is moving into the location right across the street from Chippewa Secondary School.

The OPP building, which opened in the late '60s or early '70s was one of more than 240 properties the government announced it was putting up for sale within the next four years.

Fedeli feels the former Liberal government made it tough for potential buyers to purchase buildings like the old OPP building in North Bay.
