Former Callander mayor earns award

In recognition of his efforts to better the communities by volunteering

Former Callander mayor Bill Brazeau has earned a Caring Canadian Award from the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.

Brazeau presently lives in Kilworthy, Ontario

He volunteered over 10 years to law enforcement in his community as a Powassan Auxiliary OPP officer. He is also a volunteer firefighter with the Gravenhurst Fire Department, and is a past president of the Canadian Red Cross North Bay Branch, VCARS President (North Bay) as well as a Councillor and Mayor of Callander.

Just before Christmas last year, Brazeau was injured while fighting a fire in Gravenhurst. He has recovered mostly from his injuries, but continues with physical therapy

Brazeau is also on the short list for two other awards - Medal of Bravery and the Fire Fighters Medal for Bravery.
