The first major winter storm of the season is about to hit the area tonight!
Environment Canada issued a winter travel advisory this morning, warning that we could be hit with up to 15 cm of snow in the next 24 hours.
Expect snow, which is heavy at times, with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm. Higher amounts are possible over higher terrain.
A low-pressure system will bring accumulating snow to the area starting this evening and continuing into Tuesday. The heaviest snowfall is expected through the evening and overnight hours, before tapering off on Tuesday. Locally higher amounts are possible over higher terrain areas, which may exceed 15 cm.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for:
- North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
- South River - Burk's Falls
- Sudbury
- West Nipissing-French River
- Temiskaming Shores - Temagami
- Deep River - Whitney - Eastern Algonquin Park,
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.
