Former Battalion star returning to play north of the border

NHL free agency sees Battalion fan-favourite join the Ottawa Senators

Former North Bay Battalion star Michael Amadio is on the move as the NHL free agency period kicked off today.

After playing much of the past three seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights — winning a Stanley Cup in the process — Amadio signed a three-year contract with the Ottawa Senators today.

The deal holds an average annual value of $2.6 million with a year-by-year breakdown of $2.5 million in 2024-25, $2.8 million in 2025-26, and $2.5 million in 2026-27.

Amadio had 14 goals and 27 points in 73 games with the Golden Knights in 2023-24 after posing 16 goals and 27 points in 67 games the previous season.

The 28-year-old was claimed by the Golden Knights off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs early on in the 2021-22 season.

The signing marks the second time Amadio has been a part of the Senators after he played five games with the club during the 2020-21 season after being traded by the Los Angeles Kings. He signed with the Maple Leafs as a free agent following the completion of the season.

Amadio had 57 goals and 112 points in 369 career NHL games.

Battalion fans remember Amadio, he netted 50 goals and 98 points for the Troops in his final season in the OHL back in 2015-16.

After he won the Stanley Cup, Amadio was a guest on our Inside the Village podcast. You can watch the full episode HERE.
