Debbie Marson receives a cheque from Sue Knight from the North Bay Youth Soccer Club.

The North Bay Food Bank got a boost today thanks to a cheque for $10,000 from the North Bay Youth Soccer Club.

"Thank you to the North Bay Youth Soccer Club for the $10,000 boost to our fixed address hamper program," stated Deb Marson, executive director of the North Bay Food Bank on social media.

Sue Knight, former president of the soccer club which folded in early 2024, visited the food bank to hand over the donation.

"With an increase in client visits, we are grateful for this donation," stated Marson.

Donating plenty

Since the soccer club - which had operated in North Bay for nearly 50 years - ceased operations in early 2024, it has been distributing funds across the community.

The organization has been handing out donations to local organizations such as West Ferris Ringette, KidSport plus a $200,000 cheque to Nipissing University for a new North Bay Youth Soccer award fund.

"The board has decided to continue with this spirit of philanthropy and will be making donations later this year to several community organizations in North Bay, many of which have a focus on youth and youth sports," the North Bay Youth Soccer Club release stated in early 2024.

However, no donations have been made to the Nipissing District Soccer club which took over for the old Club and started offering programming during the COVID-19 pandemic.
