A truck fire near midnight happened around the same time as encampment blaze.

The North Bay Fire Department was trying to deal with two fire calls around the same time late on Wednesday night.

Jason Whiteley, North Bay's Fire Chief says crews responded at around 11:30 p.m. to a vehicle fire on O'Brien Street close to the bypass near the Comfort Inn.

"Upon arrival fire crews encountered a fully involved Dodge Ram pick-up," said Whiteley.

"The fire crew quickly extinguished the fire and ensured the driver was not injured."

Whiteley noted city works crew responded to sand the area to make the intersection safe.

At the same time, two fire crews were dealing with a blaze at an encampment in the Main Street West-Couchie Memorial Drive area.

"Crews were challenged with accessibility to the site due to the location, and snow conditions," explained Whiteley.

"Fire crews helped evacuate a person with burn injuries and possible exposure. North Bay EMS treated and transported the person to hospital."
