The Federal Government will spend a combined total of $88,000 in Science North for the summer of 2024 to help support the hiring of summer camp.

"With this funding Science North has been able to hire young Canadians to support their summer camp programs across northern Ontario, including in North Bay while providing youth the opportunity to develop their workforce skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labor market," says a news release.

MP Anthony Rota participated in a science camp activity at Saint-Raymond Catholic School in North Bay this afternoon. These camps are designed to spark an interest in science with a blend of hands-on and engaging activities.

Since 1987, Science North has reached 40,000 Northern Ontario children ages 4-13 through the delivery of weekend-long summer science camp programs. Last summer, Science North reached the highest number of children and communities ever and this summer that number will grow again with an anticipated 4,400 campers across 35 communities in Ontario.

"Science North has a mandate to serve the north including summer science camps and outreach programs to teachers, students and the public, as well as expanding and deepening engagement with Indigenous audiences, and partnerships with community attractions to deliver science experiences.

“Science North camps offer the opportunity for young people to discover the world around them in new and unique ways, which helps build them into better leaders and innovators for our future," said MP Anthony Rota.

“This funding from the Government of Canada enables Science North to expand our summer camp programs and provide more young Canadians with the opportunity to develop essential workforce skills," said Ashley Larose, Science North, CEO.
