Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Conservative Government is not giving up on its promise to bring passenger rail to the north. He says they just have to be patient.
A survey has been created involving the return of passenger rail to the region.
The Northeastern Ontario Rail Network and the Committee Promoting Muskoka Rail Travel set up the online survey.
“One year ago, newly elected PC leader Doug Ford promised to return passenger rail service on the Toronto to Cochrane line which had been cancelled in 2012. This promise has been reiterated several times in the past 12 months,” stated Lucille Frith, NEORNand CPMRT Co-chair in a release.

Fedeli reminds the passenger rail supporters that it has only been a year since they took office.
“We have done 220 initiatives and 38 of our promises have been fulfilled already, 12 are underway and are being fulfilled and there are nine to go,” stated Fedeli.
“So our goal is to fulfil every one of our campaign promises over the course of the four-year term and I would think they should have faith in that because we have delivered, we have performed and we have shown them that we care," he continued.
“The Ontario Northland project, the return of passenger rail it is well underway and they just have to understand that we are working. When the Liberals tore it apart, they took away the office in Toronto, they took all the depots away, in fact, some of the track is torn up. So there is a tremendous amount of work to do and we are getting there.”
The supporters of the survey, which goes until June 30, want to provide data that will support the return of passenger rail between Toronto and Cochrane as promised.
Officials say the results will be released to Ontario Northland in July.
