At least one person was pronounced dead at the scene following a collision on Highway 63 Monday morning.
Witnesses at the scene — near Salter Lake off Highway 63 — confirm there was a fatal collision between a transport truck and a car. A school bus was also nearby on Highway 63 but was not damaged. The collision occurred just before 8 a.m.
The North Bay OPP, District of Nipissing Emergency Medical Services, and the Phelps Fire Department responded to the collision.
As of 1:30 p.m., the highway remained closed between the fish hatchery northeast of Balsam Creek and the Highway 533 turn. The collision occurred approximately 60 kilometres from North Bay.
There are side roads available to detour although the condition of those roads is unclear. Police advise motorists to get travel information by calling 511 or visiting the MTO website.
The investigation continues with a full Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team.
