He had just announced the closing of his restaurant on Main St. last month.

He was also an internationally acclaimed photographer.

Close friend Peter Waiser wrote on Eng's Facebook page, "A bright light in our world was snuffed out yesterday because of Cancer. My oldest friend of 63 years was taken from us yesterday. Edwin Ed Eng was without a doubt one of the very finest people that I have ever known and with 63 years friendship there are a million and one wonderful memories.

"I celebrate his life and am thinking of his wife Helen Eng and his children Sabina Eng, Tanya Eng, Dion Eng and their families. He is finally free of this disease that he fought for so many years. He is off to the big photo studio in sky.

"He was my brother from a different Mother and will be missed. North Bay lost a true gentleman."

Friend Marla Hayes wrote, "I am in complete shock of learn of the death of Ed! The beauty you saw in the world and captured thru your camera lens is an eternal gift you have left us. My deepest sympathies to the whole Eng family."

And from Chris Mayne,  "was a pleasure to have known Ed as a neighbour, someone who loved to travel and as a world class photographer who shared his talents with all of us in North Bay through projects like "Help Portrait", the North Bay Regional Hospital and One Kids Place fundraising calendars, and to see the world through his camera. Rest in Peace Ed, your kindness, community involvement and photography will long be remembered."
