Drinking water advisory continues

The North Bay and District Health Unit has continued the drinking water advisory issued Tuesday by its medical officer of Health Dr. Catherine Whiting.
The North Bay and District Health Unit has continued the drinking water advisory issued Tuesday by its medical officer of Health Dr. Catherine Whiting.

Residents and properties of CFB North Bay and the Jack Garland Airport serviced by the municipal water system in the area are the only ones affected.

A loss of system pressure led to the advisory, and, until further notice, tap water should not be used for drinking, brushing teeth or washing dishes.

All other residents using city water may use tap water as usual.

Health Unit staff will continue monitoring the situation, and Whiting will notify the public when the drinking water advisory has been lifted.

While the advisory is in effect, people should not use tap water for drinking, brushing teeth or cooking. Bottled water may be used instead.

Water is also available at Fire Station Number One at the corner of Princess Street and Ferguson Street, and Fire Station Number Two on McKeown Avenue, and people are asked to take their own clean containers.

A drinking water advisory is different from a boil water advisory. It's issued whenever a condition may exist with a drinking water supply that may result in a risk to consumers and that cannot be corrected by boiling the water or by disinfection.

Due to the low pressure in the current situation, the potential for contamination is unknown. A boil water advisory is issued when a condition exists that can be corrected by boiling the water before consuming it.
