West Nipissing Police held a news conference Monday afternoon, hoping media exposure would solve a four year old case. On display was this facial reconstruction, modeled after the actual skull of the dead man. Photo by Jeff Turl.
On September 2, 2010 the remains of this man were found in a wooded area, approximately 100 feet from a paved road, on private property, near Chemin Lac Clair in West Nipissing.
Police believe he was just passing through town, and may have been a hitch-hiker.
He is thought to have been dead for two weeks to six months when found. There were no signs of trauma.
Now, police have something they think might unravel the mystery---if they can find someone who recognizes this man.
It is estimated that this man is Caucasian, aged 35 to 55 years, and that he had a medium build and stood 5' 8" to 6' 4" tall.
His hair was brown and shorter than his collar.
He was wearing a BUSHLINE brand camouflage-patterned jacket and shirt, and DENVER HAYES brand khaki cargo pants. These were worn over additional items of clothing (a button-up shirt, T-shirt and underpants).
His shoes were velcro fastened sneakers.
A camouflage-patterned backpack containing food and personal items was also found with him.
In his pants pockets were papers regarding firearms possession, bug spray, "Simmons" binoculars, Ray Ban" aviator style" sunglasses, paper, and coins.
He also had a small "Everlite" duffel bag with three pairs of underpants, a package of gum, tape, and hose from a toilet tank.
A camouflage-patterned backpack contained a granola bar, an empty juice can, wet wipes, compact containing mirror only, jar of peanut butter, scissors, plastic bags, water bottle, netting, face cloth, soap, bag containing diphenhydramine pills, tube of Orajel, razor, and wet paper.
